Things must be a little Crazy, as Seal and Heidi Klum announced they are divorcing. The celebrity couple is just the latest in a long line of high-profile couples who must have made divorcing a priority on their New Year’s resolutions list.
No reason has been given for the couple’s divorce besides a prepared statement that stated the two were growing apart. There had been speculation that Seal’s anger issues may have precipitated the decision, though that suggestion was quickly shot down, reports the New York Daily News.
Now as the couple moves forward with the divorce, both spouses appear to be taking it in stride, saying that the couple is parting on amicable terms and that a relationship will continue for the sake of their four children, reports the Daily News.
Divorce can be a difficult process. Even in the best of circumstances, tempers may run high, and every decision can seem to be more stressful than the last, especially when children are involved. While Seal and Heidi Klum seem to be handling their divorce well, the following are some “do’s and don’ts” for the divorce process:
- DO be reasonable and cooperate as much as possible with your soon-to-be-ex. Reasonable compromise yields quicker and easier results in divorce cases.
- DO support your children through this process. It’s even tougher on them than on you. Don’t make them pick sides.
- DO ask your attorney if anything doesn’t make sense. Your attorney works for you, and should help you understand every part of the divorce process.
- DON’T make big plans to take a job in another state or move out of the country until your divorce is final. Your new life could interfere with getting your divorce finalized.
- DON’T “give away” property to friends or relatives, and arrange to get it back later. Hiding property can mean your spouse can take you back to court to settle those assets.
The Seal Heidi Klum divorce shows that even the happiest of marriages filled with children can end in divorce. If you are also going through a split, you should not let your emotions overcome you during the divorce legal process and you may want to work with a family law attorney.
