It's not even worth mentioning anymore when older men date or even marry women less than half their age (Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's penchant for barely legal girlfriends is a prime example). But for some reason we still find it outrageous when older women, also known as "cougars," hook up with much-younger men.
Recent cougar news involves 50-year-old Linda Hogan's engagement to 21-year-old bleach-blonde Charlie Hill, according to celebrity gossip and news site Popeater.com. Linda Hogan's claim to fame is her former marriage to retired professional wrestler Hulk Hogan; the couple has a daughter who is one year older than Linda Hogan's new beau.
So what are the odds given by divorce attorneys in Chicago that this marriage will last until death?
Perhaps it's true love; you never know. But has Charlie Hill considered the fact that his wife-to-be will be 70 when he hits middle age? The Hulkster's ex-wife started dating Charlie Hill when he was barely 19 years old.
But 56-year-old Hulk Hogan also robbed the cradle after their divorce, marrying 36-year-old Jennifer McDaniel. And it's more than a little unsettling that his new fiancé is a dead-ringer for his own daughter, Brooke Hogan, according to celebrity observers.
Perhaps the most disturbing part of this whole scenario is a portion of an interview Hulk Hogan gave Rolling Stone last year about his ex-wife's then-19-year-old boyfriend:
"You're driving through downtown Clearwater [Florida] and see a 19-year-old boy driving your Escalade, and you know that a 19-year-old boy is sleeping in your bed, with your wife ... I totally understand O.J. I could have turned everything into a crime scene like O.J., cutting everybody's throat."
Most Chicago family law attorneys probably would advise their clients not to utter such venomous language in print. But then again, celebrities seem always eager to entertain, even when it's unintentional.
