Is Tiki Barber Really Too Broke To Pay Divorce Settlement To Ginny Barber?

| No TrackBacks

Former New York Giants football star Tiki Barber, who allegedly had an affair with a 24-year-old NBC intern while his wife was pregnant with their twin daughters, might be too broke to pay for the proposed settlement with estranged wife Ginny Barber, according to the New York Post.

Perhaps it's a case of instant karma, but NBC recently terminated the former football star's $300,000-per-year contract as a "Today Show" correspondent. NBC said the decision was made before his alleged infidelity became public, but Today Show tends to appeal to viewers who would be more critical of a correspondent with questionable ethics.

Regardless, Ginny Barber is seeking $150,000 per month in alimony (also called spousal support).

Divorce attorneys in Chicago would advise their clients that alimony is calculated on the basis of actual income and assets of the divorcing parties, as explained by FindLaw.

That means Ginny Barber may not get the financial support she seeks if he really is short on cash. However, earning capacity also is a factor; which means Tiki Barber's quickly fading celebrity value resulting from his alleged infidelity may actually put a damper on Ginny Barber's efforts at collecting alimony.

We say "alleged affair" so as not to place actual blame but Tiki Barber has not denied allegations that he ditched his wife for former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, who was just a kid when the couple got married more than a decade ago.

Some sources say Tiki Barber is being cheap, but his friends told the Post that Ginny Barber is trying to "bleed him dry" in light of the alleged affair. The anonymous close friend cited by the Post said $150,000 per month in alimony is an outrageous demand:

"In due time, if Tiki was dumb enough to give her that amount, he would be broke."

Usually the difference between a lackluster or even unfair alimony ruling and a favorable is directly tied to having a skilled and experienced divorce attorney in Chicago at your side.
