Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson tells a much different story than his ex-girlfriend, Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva, as the former couple argues over child support and abuse allegations. Mel Gibson and Oksana have a young daughter together.
The Russian beauty says the 54-year-old actor physically abused her and has not paid any child support for their 9-month-old daughter, as reported by the New York Daily News. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, said her claims have no merit. Chicago family law attorneys would say that the truth usually comes out during the discovery process of civil trials.
Oksana Grigorieva claims the controversial "Mad Max" star punched her twice in the face, breaking her teeth and giving her a concussion, according to TMZ. She got a restraining order against Mel Gibson shortly after the alleged attack. Her attorneys declined to give details but offered the following press statement:
"Oksana will continue to abide by the ethical obligations and rules arising from a confidential paternity action and will let the court decide the issue in this matter."
It seems as though Mel Gibson settled with the mother of his child out of court rather than risk a public paternity trial. Sources tell the New York Daily News that he has an estimated net worth of $900 million and thus able to make child support payments.
But Oksana Grigorieva claims she has had to live on credit cards and claims her baby daddy is "not paying [her] a penny" in child support. They were never married but they split up two months ago.
Mel Gibson divorced his wife of 28 years, Robyn Gibson, after she learned that he was having an affair with Oksana Grigorieva while the two were in Costa Rica.
If the father of your child is not paying his fair share of childcare expenses or even ignoring a court order, an Illinois family law attorney may be able to help you. And legitimate claims of domestic violence, while unfortunate, often give the victimized party more leverage in such cases.
